180 Makeover - Hattie's Coffee House Whitestown
Overview
Whitestown is a rapidly growing and changing community and has made a commitment to improving the quality of life in the traditional downtown as well as the newly developing areas near I-65. The town has invested in the Big 4 Trail and sidewalks to downtown businesses to support trail-oriented development/redevelopment. The former residential building at 607 S Main in Whitestown has been renovated over the past 2 years and now is home to Hattie’s Coffee House and The Daily Grind Roasting. The owners of the building and the proprietors of The Daily Grind Roasting envision the business to be very open for public interaction and community building. They want public space for retail sales, roasting and tasting demonstrations, educational seminars, and to meet a growing need for meeting/conference room space in Whitestown. Additionally, the owners support the desire of their tenant, Hattie’s Coffee using READI funds for accessibility and other improvements to their parking lot, improving the landscaping including adding trees and a nature path, activating the space with a play structure, and installing bike racks for people coming from the trail. Both the owner and the tenant have invested/committed private match for the project. The project will begin in April 2024 and be complete by October 2024, with expectation that it will be complete earlier, before the summer season.
